Product Description
Betulin is a high-purity triterpene active extracted from the iconic white bark of the Birch tree. It is a foundational molecule for skin health, renowned for its powerful, science-backed anti-inflammatory and restorative properties. Its key advantage is its proven ability to calm severe irritation and accelerate barrier repair by stimulating keratinocyte differentiation. While its derivative (Betulinic Acid) is known for anti-aging, Betulin is the premier choice for formulators developing high-performance dermo-cosmetics to address sensitive, compromised, or post-procedure skin.
Product Uses
This active is ideal for high-performance dermo-cosmetic and restorative formulations:
- Soothing Formulations: The perfect hero ingredient for serums, creams, and balms targeting redness, irritation, and sensitive skin.
- Barrier Repair: A key component in products for compromised skin barriers, including eczema or psoriasis-prone skin.
- Post-Procedure/Sun Care: Used in recovery creams and after-sun lotions to calm the skin and support the healing process.
Formulation Suggestions
The recommended dosage is between 0.5-2.0%. Betulin is a high-melting-point (approx. 240-250°C) crystalline powder and is insoluble in water. It must be pre-dissolved in the oil phase by heating (e.g., in oils or esters) or, more effectively, dissolved in a glycol solvent (e.g., propanediol, pentylene glycol) before being incorporated into an emulsion's water phase or during the cool-down phase. It is often formulated synergistically with its derivative, Betulinic Acid.
