Pentahydrosqualene is a hydrogenated squalene used as an oil-phase emollient. It is not squalane and not squalene. This grade is a colorless to pale yellow oil that mixes into other oils.

Creams and anhydrous balms continue to specify this INCI when a saturated squalene derivative is required. Cosmetic-grade Pentahydrosqualene remains a bulk emollient when the identity is on the COA.
