Ceramide AP is a phytosphingosine ceramide carrying an alpha-hydroxy fatty acid. In skin care it is used as a barrier lipid, not as a fragrance or emulsifier. The grade specified here is the C18 material, N-(2-hydroxyoctadecanoyl)phytosphingosine, supplied as a white to off-white powder that dissolves in the oil phase when heated. It is poorly soluble in water.

Formulation Guidelines

• Suggested Use Level: Typical 0.05–0.5% in the finished formula
• pH Range: Suggested 5.0–7.0 for the finished emulsion
• Addition: Add to the oil phase and heat until fully dissolved, typically around 80°C; homogenize before cool-down
• Stability: Recheck for crystals after 24 hours; a small amount of compatible lipid can help keep it dispersed
• Combine with Ceramide Np Powder when the chassis needs both Ceramide AP and Ceramide NP.
