Quick answer: a brand brief that says Progeline and a purchase order that says Tripeptide-2 can still describe two different drums. Progeline is a commercial name. Trade literature and the opened distributor TDS tie the peptide to trifluoroacetyl tripeptide-2, CAS 64577-63-5. Tripeptide-2 is the underivatized inventory name. One of those two INCIs has to win before price and lead time mean anything.
The bare-powder checklist—including why the hero line on that page must not override the specification block—is in Bare Tripeptide-2 for Skin Is Not the Progeline Drum.
Turn the trade name into an INCI a factory can fill
Cosmetics & Toiletries identifies the Progeline active as trifluoroacetyl-tripeptide-2. PubChem lists that structure as Tfa-Val-Tyr-Val-OH, CAS 64577-63-5, formula C21H28F3N3O6, molecular weight about 475.5. FDA’s UNII record for the same name maps CAS 64577-63-5 and also lists ECM-Protect among synonyms. ECM-Protect is another commercial label for this structure, not a third peptide.
Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2 on this site prints the same CAS, formula, and sequence TFA-Val-Tyr-Val-OH, as a white to off-white powder, purity ≥99%, soluble in water and polar solvents. Its own description uses the Progeline name. The specification block is still the line you quote: INCI Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2, not “Progeline” as a warehouse code.
EU inventory language describes Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2 as the reaction product of trifluoroacetic acid and Tripeptide-2. CosIng-style mirrors list reference 59830 and functions such as skin conditioning and skin protecting; several of those mirrors leave the CAS cell blank even though PubChem and the product page print 64577-63-5. For a quote, put CAS 64577-63-5 on the trifluoroacetyl line when your pack requires a CAS, and confirm it on the COA—not from a mirror that omitted it.
“Progeline or equivalent” with no INCI usually returns clarifying emails, not a firm offer. The trade name is a reference. The fillable line is the INCI plus form and assay.
The trifluoroacetyl group is in the structure
The N-terminal trifluoroacetyl on TFA-Val-Tyr-Val-OH is a covalent cap in the named structure, not a loose trifluoroacetate salt you can ignore. When a document mentions TFA, ask which of these it means:
- TFA is part of the INCI Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2 (the Progeline-type peptide)
- TFA is only a residual salt or process impurity on some other peptide
- The COA header still says Tripeptide-2 and never names the trifluoroacetyl grade
“TFA appears somewhere on the COA” is not proof that you already ordered the Progeline-type grade. Ask for the INCI string and the sequence line together.
Which product page receives the inquiry
Two pages on this site can both appear in a Progeline search. They are not interchangeable quotes.
| You locked | Send the inquiry to |
|---|---|
| Bare Tripeptide-2, no trifluoroacetyl, no CAS 64577-63-5 | Tripeptide-2 |
| Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2, TFA-Val-Tyr-Val-OH, CAS 64577-63-5 | Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2 |
| “Progeline” with no INCI yet | Stop. Ask which INCI the assay will report, then use the matching row |
The bare Tripeptide-2 page has carried a short buy line that names Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2 while the specification table still says Tripeptide-2. Do not let that sentence choose the drum. If your brief is Progeline-type, open the trifluoroacetyl page and match CAS 64577-63-5. If your brief is the bare powder, stay on the Tripeptide-2 specification block and reject a COA that swapped the INCI.
Both powder pages suggest about 0.01–0.05% when the material is the neat peptide. That numeral still belongs to the grade named on the COA you buy. It does not transfer a Progeline clinical file onto the bare powder, and it does not replace the percent on a dilute trade blend.
Solution percent is the blend, not the peptide alone
The Progeline technical file opened for this note lists a multi-part INCI: glycerin, water, dextran, and trifluoroacetyl tripeptide-2, with CAS 64577-63-5 on the peptide. Recommended use there is about 2% for an intensive treatment, about 1% for body care, and about 0.5–2% for preventive care—of that commercial blend. Incorporation is at the end of the formula, below 40°C, in a pH band about 4–6. Those handling points describe the named blend. They are a supplier account of that grade, not a promise that every finished cream will remodel a jawline, and they do not apply to a ≥99% powder until the COA shows the same INCI and form.
Copying 0.5–2% onto a high-assay trifluoroacetyl powder overdoses the pilot. Copying 0.01–0.05% onto the glycerin blend underdoses it. State the physical form in the RFQ so the quoted price and the TDS percent describe the same drum.
When the paperwork prints Tripeptide-2 anyway
Some Progeline-family listings have been reported to declare glycerin, water, and Tripeptide-2 without the trifluoroacetyl prefix, while CosIng keeps Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2 as its own entry. The 2021 TDS cited above does print the trifluoroacetyl name. Do not average the two. For the lot you will receive, ask:
- Which INCI string the assay and the label will report
- Whether CAS 64577-63-5 is on that COA
- Whether the commercial form is a dilute glycerin–water–dextran solution or a high-assay powder
Write the answers into the PO before price and lead time. A trade name alone does not settle the split.
How to choose on the RFQ
| Brief says | What to order |
|---|---|
| Tripeptide-2 only / bare powder / no Progeline | Tripeptide-2 specification block |
| Progeline / ECM-Protect / trifluoroacetyl-tripeptide-2 / CAS 64577-63-5 | Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2 |
| Progeline blend, glycerin–water–dextran, 0.5–2% | The trade solution whose INCI the TDS prints—not a neat powder at that percent |
| “Firming tripeptide” with no INCI | Ask for INCI before sampling |
What to put in the quote email
Lock these fields before you ask for price or lead time:
- Exact INCI: Tripeptide-2 or Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2
- Trade name Progeline or ECM-Protect only as a reference, never as a substitute for the INCI
- If trifluoroacetyl: CAS 64577-63-5 and sequence TFA-Val-Tyr-Val-OH on the COA
- Physical form: high-assay powder versus diluted glycerin–water–dextran solution
- Which percent band applies to that form (about 0.01–0.05% for neat powder pages here; about 0.5–2% for the named blend in the TDS)
- Target assay, sample pack size, and whether COA, SDS, and TDS ship with the offer
Documents and samples for the bare powder are on the Tripeptide-2 page. The trifluoroacetyl grade has its own page. Send the inquiry to the page that matches the INCI you locked. That is the shortest path from a Progeline brief to a quote the factory can fill without a second round of clarification.
